Roofing Contractors Charging for Estimates? Yep!
Jan 04, 2018
Can a roofing contractor charge for estimates?
Yes, if the services they are offering includes more than just a quick look at the roof and slapping a price onto it.
This is a brilliant strategy for many reasons because these contractors get paid to:
- Visit the job site and spend more time gathering the right information
- Create a clear plan of action for their client.
- Plan the project in advance. If they get the work, they are ready to go.
- Create a new service that generates revenue for their company
I think this is a brilliant strategy and is a win-win for everyone involved. That's why I'm such a strong advocate for everyone that spends time creating plans for building projects. If you provide a professional service for your clients, you deserve to get paid a fair price for your expertise.
Here is a link to a magazine article in Pro Remodeler magazine that talks about how an Orange County exterior contractor is getting paid to do a roof and exterior estimate as part of a home inspection package. The article hits on many key points, and I encourage you to read it.
That's one of the reasons I wrote my complimentary report about 15 Reasons You Should be Charging More For Your Home Plans.

PS. I was talking with a client yesterday that attended one of my classes last January. His company went from not charging for plans to creating almost $50k in revenue. They are doing basically the same thing they were doing before. Plus they are getting better projects now. Leave your stories at our Facebook group. I love hearing stories like this!
